I came to know Eric at a dinner party to welcome me to Houston in 2005. Being from out of state, I had studied a little about Texas for the gathering. I asked if anyone knew how many counties were in Texas. Eric answered without a pause and told me quite a bit of other Texas ephemera as well. His joyous love of the arts and enthusiasm in sharing it is something I'll fondly remember. Rest in peace, Eric.
