Richard W. "Rick" Ewing
1932-2015
Richard W. "Rick" Ewing, longtime Houston attorney, passed away on Monday, the 16th of March 2015 at the age of 82. He was born on the 8th of October 1932 in Athens, Texas.
Rick received a B.S. degree from Texas A&M in 1954; a J.D. from the University of Houston in 1957; and a Master of Laws from Yale University in 1966.
He was on the faculty at the University of Houston Law School for several years and practiced law in Houston for over fifty years.
Rick was a devoted family man who loved music, books, golf and his frisky poodles, Belle and Beaux. He was extremely intelligent, kind and generous, a free spirit who loved life; he was an elegant man and a true gentleman. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by father, Lucius Winchester Ewing, mother, Leta George Ewing and brother, Edgar George Ewing.
Survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Joyce Parker Ewing; son, Richard W. Ewing II and wife, Leann Ewing and children, Corey Dalton McAfee and Brittany Gail McAfee; daughter, Meredith Hurley Harper and husband, William Jeffery Harper and daughter, Katherine Davis Harper; son, Seldon Patrick Hurley and wife JoAnna Butler Hurley and daughters, GeorgeAnna Maria Hurley and JoAnna Parker Hurley; sister, Jane Ewing Lawshae; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 22nd of March in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances memorial contributions may be directed to Poodle Rescue of Houston, 13302 Schroder Rd., Houston, TX, 77070; or the charity of one's choice.
