Joyce Miller Obituary

Joyce Elaine Lorenz Miller
1932-2015
The wonderful and amazing Joyce Elaine Lorenz Miller passed away at the age of 82 on Monday, April 27, 2015. Joyce was born October 22, 1932 in Brenham, TX and was the only child of Herbert Lorenz and Alma Wieghat Lorenz. She was raised in the Lutheran faith and attended Grace Lutheran Church. She converted to the Episcopalian faith in 1950.
In 1950, Joyce met Herbert Buntzel, Jr., and the two were married October 17th of that year. Joyce and Herb had three children – Gaile, Karen, and Mark. Joyce was a nurturing and loving stay-at-home-mom who took care of the kids, the home and her husband.
After Joyce and Herb divorced in 1970, she sought work outside the home and became the Administrator of the Dean at the University Of Texas Dental School in Houston. At UTDB, Joyce met and fell in love with Dr. James Travis Miller and the two were married in 1977. Jim succumbed to cancer in 1997. Joyce was also a residential real estate agent for many years. Joyce's companion later in life was Dr. Hal Board, Sr.
Joyce was passionate about her children and grandchildren. She was a great friend and engaging neighbor, a competitive bridge and poker player, and enjoyed graciously hosting thousands of parties. Joyce was a member of the Delphian Society and former leader of her daughters' Blue Bird troop. She was a member of Sugar Creek and Quail Valley Country Clubs. Joyce volunteered at Methodist Hospital for many years. Joyce will be remembered for her generosity, warmth, intelligence and sense of humor.
The family thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff at Belmont Village, Garden Terrace and Houston Hospice.
Joyce is survived by her children, Gaile Daniels and Brian Starrett, Karen Bradshaw and husband John, and Mark Buntzel and wife Maria; grandchildren, Dawn Mabray, Sean Daniels and wife Robin, Raegen Wooton and husband Shawn and Ariel Bradshaw; great-grandchildren Korina Mabray Balderas, Zachary Daniels, Collan Daniels, Joslyn Legenzoff, Ireland Daniels, Madelyn Todd, Kailyn Wooton and Christian John Buntzel, and; and great-great-grandchild Neaveh Balderas.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, April 30, at The Bradshaw-Carter Home, 1734 W. Alabama Street in Houston.
The funeral service will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, May 1, also at The Bradshaw-Carter Home, with John Bradshaw officiating.
The family will gather for a private interment at a later date at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Joyce in your prayers, or make a donation in Joyce's memory to the Alzheimer's Association National Office. Research Division, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 6060.
