I was a student and friend of George's in the 1960-80's period, at Austin Presby Seminary, and later in Austin as his pastor at Westminster Church. I found out about his death rather late since I'd lost touch with him over the years. But, his influence upon my life remains strong. He was a good man and I enjoyed being with him and meeting his family (I performed his wedding at his home). And, I must admit, I loved driving his Porsche!
He had a great sense of humor.

George will be missed. What a marvelous human being! Kind, caring, sympathetic, intelligent, he was a true gentleman in every way. With much love and sympathy to his family members from Stephanie and Jay Wilson, Nantucket friends.

One of many Godchildren, George allowed me to forge quite an extraordinary relationship with him - with his family - after the early death of my father. Grateful to have been able to walk alongside him for so many years, by his open hand - his open heart. In his smile, he would forget himself. Our lives have been beautifully touched. He walked in beauty.

I'll always remember George as one of those people who helped formulate my life. My time with him goes back to the late 1950's while he was at First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo. He was a model for most all of us who knew him then. He literally took me to Princeton when he visited Yale in 1957, and because of that trip, I enjoyed 2 years of Ivy League schooling at Princeton. My regret is that I never saw him after the early '60's...I wish now that I had tried to find him, and I am certain that I would have very much enjoyed his company. I'm not surprised by his many accomplishments. My condolences to all of his family. I'm sure that you were all blessed by his presence in your lives.

George was a great friend, and will always be a role model for me as the right and proper way to live a life. He made a positive difference in the lives of so many. The world is poorer for his absence, but so much greater for his having been here. My deepest condolences are with his family.
