Carroll Oliver Obituary

Mr. Carroll Patrick Oliver
1947-2016
Carroll Patrick Oliver, 68, was born in Mansura, Louisiana on February 2, 1947. He graduated from Bethune High School then attended college at Grambling State University where he met his wife Jolene Smith.
Carroll's nearly 37 year career with McDonald's as a franchise owner included the recruiting of his daughter Stephanie Oliver-Green. Carroll and Jolene's son Cedric, played a significant role in maintaining the family business as a restaurant manager. He was also the Chaplain for the Fort Bend County Precinct Two Constable's office. Carroll had a servant's heart and his lifelong calling was to help the poor and underprivileged. He was most recognized for giving jobs to people, whether teenagers or veterans, and helping them succeed in the community. He had numerous regular customers and often gave out free food to the homeless or those who could not afford a meal. He served as the Houston Region BMOA President and as the NBMOA Board Representative. He loved fitness, swimming and boating but his greatest passion was spending time with his family and loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert Oliver Sr., and Catherine Carmouche, his brother Leon Oliver and sister Eloise Lee. Above all else, he was devoted to God. Carroll is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jolene Oliver and their two children Cedric Oliver and Stephanie Oliver, host of relatives friends and his McDonald's family.
The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 4000 Sumpter Street, Houston, TX 77220. Visitation 9:00 – 10:00AM, Rosary 10:00AM, Mass 11:00AM, Burial is at Rosewood Memorial Park, 2602 S. Houston, Ave., Humble, TX 77396.

Stephanie was one of my best friends during my younger days, while attending SHSU. I remember visiting the family home in Kingwood. The Oliver family — Mr. Carroll, Ms. Jolene and Steph — were very hospitable, kind, lively and welcoming people. It was shocking and heartbreaking to learn of Mr. Carroll being taken away from all of us. To me, he was the example of a strong, intelligent Black man doing well in business. He was a man of many accomplishments and inspired so many people in Houston, including myself. My condolences to the family. God bless you.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word ,one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. My heart is with the entire family in your time of sorrow.

Our prayers go out to the Oliver family.

We were Carroll Oliver's neighbors for over 23 years and you could not have asked for a better neighbor. He was always positive and a real friend to us. He had a beautiful family that he was so proud of--including his dog(s) that he walked nightly. Carroll would do the world for you if you asked him to. People looked up to Carroll because of how he lived his life. We were so fortunate to have had him in our lives and we know his family, friends and employees undoubtedly feel the same way.

We still can't believe you are gone and you will always be in our thoughts as a role model on how to live life in a positive and meaningful way. Carroll, you will be missed but never forgotten.

Love you, neighbor,
