Sgt Robert Matthew "Matt" McDowell, 30, was killed on April 1, 2007 in Baghdad. He was a proud member of the Army, having completed nearly 10 years of service. Matt served his country in the U.S., Bosnia, Germany and Iraq. He was killed during his second tour. Matt was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York. He received numerous awards, including the Purple Heart and was a graduate of Deer Park High School. Matt was a loving son to his parents, Pat and Kathy Callahan of Deer Park, Texas and Kim McDowell of AL;. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Daniela of Ft. Drum, NY and a loving father to his children Madison and Nathan McDowell. Matt was a brother to Michael McDowell and his wife Stacey, and a fun uncle to William and Micah of Pearland, Texas. Matt leaves behind relatives in Terre Haute, IN. and Germany. Matt was a fun-loving friend to all, and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all. Funeral arrangements are pending.
