Edward F. Vander Bloomen, Sr., age 88, of 1005 S. Main Street, Mishicot, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 25, 2014.

Ed was born October 11, 1925 in Marquette, Michigan to the late Edward P. and Elizabeth (Brugman) Vander Bloomen, and was a graduate of Crivitz High School with the class of 1943. Ed served as a signalman 2nd class in the South Pacific during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged from service on February 6, 1946. On July 23, 1949, he married Annabel Jebavy at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on November 18, 1973. Ed then married Darlene (Lorenz) Taylor on May 22, 1982 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He was employed with Mirro Aluminum Co. for many years, retiring as assistant superintendent in 1987. After retirement, he also drove school bus for the Mishicot School District for several years. Ed was a member of the VFW Post # 1248 and American Legion Post # 165 of Two Rivers, where he served as past quartermaster; and was also a member of the Naval Mine Warfare Association. He was an avid deer hunter & fisherman, and enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping, and was a longtime member of the Two Rivers Horseshoe League.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; his four children, Edward (Noreen) Vander Bloomen, Jr. of Manitowoc, Donna (Dave) Musial of Two Rivers, Bill (Nancy) Vander Bloomen of Two Rivers, and Mark (Kara) Vander Bloomen of Eagle River; stepchildren: Keith (Terrie) Taylor of Two Rivers, Laurie (Patrick) Niemi of Ironwood, Mich., and Lisa Taylor of Mishicot; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one brother, Jim (Grace) Vander Bloomen of King, Wisc. He is further survived by a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, Robert (Ruth) Lorenz, Betty (Wayne) Bohm, all of Two Rivers; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Katelyn Bjarnarson; stepson, Danny Taylor; and a brother Elmer (Maefern) Vander Bloomen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Peter Mitchell, with full military honors to be accorded at the church immediately following mass by members of the VFW Post #1248 and American Legion Post # 165 of Two Rivers. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church after 9:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of mass at 10:30 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation.
