Johnston, Florence M.
Florence M. Johnston, age 96, of 3919 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, where she had been residing the past three months.
Florence was born October 20, 1916 in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late Adolph and Josephine Kubisheski Drobka. Florence attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1934 which was the first class to have an outdoor graduation in which students wore suits and dresses-both traditions that continue to this day. On October 22, 1949 Florence married Robert J. Johnston at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1999. Florence was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In past years Florence was an active member of the former Holy Innocents Catholic Church and the Christian Women of Holy Innocents. She had also be a member of the Manitowoc Senior Citizens and volunteered at the Senior Gift Shop.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: David and Crystal Johnston, Los Angeles, CA; Paul and Carol Johnston, Manitowoc, WI; four grandchildren: Karen, Robert, Katherine and Cassandra; one great grandchild: Jarid; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Robert and Deanna Drobka, Manitowoc, WI; Allan Drobka, Manitowoc, WI; Adolph and Agnes Drobka, Milwaukee, WI; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Adolph and Josephine Drobka; husband: Robert J. Johnston; one brother: Edwin Drobka; one sister-in-law: Sylvia Drobka.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Richard Klingeisen and assisted by Florence's brother, Deacon Robert Drobka. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Burial of the cremated remains will be at Knollwood Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00a.m. Following the church services there will be a luncheon held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
