Seipel, Karen A.
Karen A. Seipel, age 66, of 1610 Green St. Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Saturday morning, September 29, 2012 at St Mary's Home, Manitowoc.
She was born on March 11, 1946 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Antoinette (Pauze) Hornyak. Karen was a graduate of Mishicot High School with the class of 1964. She married Barry Kellenbenz in Manitowoc and he preceded her in death on January 19, 1969 in Vietnam. Karen was then employed with Wisconsin Fuel and Light in Manitowoc as a Draftswoman. While employed there she met Dennis Seipel. On June 20, 1970 the two were married at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Karen was also employed as a seamstress out of her home for many years as well as at Natural Market and Baldwin's Menswear. Later she was also employed with Tuxes and Tailors of Manitowoc. Karen was very active with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 731 being a State Council Meeting Coordinator. She was also a Master Gardener and was responsible for the flower gardens at the War Veterans Memorial in Manitowoc. Karen was an active member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband: Dennis Seipel, Manitowoc; their children: Kurtz Seipel, Iowa City, Iowa, Melissa Seipel and her life partner, Gordy Frank, Madison; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Gary & Beth Hornyak, Minneapolis, Thomas & Mary Hornyak, Johnson City, TN, Phillip & Mary Hornyak, Johnson City, TN, Anthony & Diane Hornyak, Manitowoc; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rose Ann & Jerry Koehler, School Hill, Duane & Karen Seipel, Appleton, Darlene & Don Tenpas, Plymouth, Janice & John Nadler, Chilton and Larry & Cathy Seipel, Chilton. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Antoinette Hornyak and her first husband: Barry Kellenbenz in 1969.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at St Francis of Assisi on Grand. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, where a prayer service will be led by deacon Paul Kieffer. The visitation will continue on Thursday morning at the Pfeffer Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until the time of morning prayers at 11:00 AM.
