Newby, Kathleen Mary (Claffey)
Kathleen Mary Newby (Claffey), 93, entered her eternal home on Friday, November 23, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Ted and Mary Vallis of Manitowoc.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Ary Claffey, one brother James Claffey and sister-in-law, Betty Claffey and her loving husband of 69 years, Wayne Newby. Kathleen is a resident of Piper's Landing in Palm City, FL. She was born May 25, 1919, to Bernard and Ary Claffey of Waukesha, WI. She formerly lived in Waukesha, WI; Oconomowoc, WI; and Sturgeon Bay, WI, before moving to Florida. She is survived by her loving family of six children, Kathy (Len) Powers, Linda (Mark) Fredrick, Barbara (Randy) Borgwardt, William (Barbara) Newby, Robert (Vicki) Newby and Mary (Ted) Vallis. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
On Sept. 19, 1942, Kathleen married Wayne Merlin Newby, DDS. Kathleen was a graduate of Mount Mary College, where she studied dietetics. Before having a family, Kathleen worked as a dietitian at Michael Reese Hospital, School of Dietetics. Kathleen was an avid golfer and bridge player. She also enjoyed her family, knitting, gardening and cooking. Kathleen was a longtime member of the Oconomowoc Garden Club, AAUW, and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waukesha WI.
A Memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waukesha, WI 822 North East Avenue on Wednesday, December 12. The family will greet friends at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, S22 W22890 Broadway Avenue.
Her faith, husband, and family were the most important thing in her life. She will be greatly missed! Kathleen's personality was too good to be true!
