Richmond, Paul Leo
Paul Leo Richmond, 81, formerly of Fond du Lac and currently of New Berlin, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2013, after a battle with congestive heart failure.
He was born on January 12, 1931, in Two Rivers, the son of Andrienne (Gauthier) and Erving Richmond. On June 29, 1957, he married Betty Buege at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
As a young man, Paul played saxophone and clarinet in a local band which led to his life-long love of music. Paul met his wife Betty at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, when he gave her rides home to Manitowoc. After he received his degree, Paul shared this love of music with generations of students first in Manawa, Wisconsin, and then for most of his career in the Fond du Lac School District. He served as the Band Director at Woodworth Junior High School, developing the musical skills of thousands of students over generations. Paul also taught a general music class for all Woodworth students, which he focused on opera. He personally produced condensed, multi-media versions of numerous operas that he presented to his classes. Paul retired from teaching and directing in 1991.
During summers, he and his family were avid campers, spending countless days at Long Lake State Park and many other beautiful Wisconsin state parks. An ardent Packers, Brewers and Badgers fan, he enjoyed following his teams over the years when they won and also when they lost.
Paul will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty; daughter, Brenda (Mark) Sopa of West Allis; daughter, Ruthanne Nolte, of Green Bay; son, Michael (Amy) Richmond of Las Vegas; daughter, Barbara (Richard) DiRegolo of Sacramento; and son, Greg (Janelle) Richmond of Chicago; 13 grandchildren including Matthew, Megan and Madeline Sopa; Sarah and Gregory Nolte; Jacob (Elissa), Maxwell, and Samuel Richmond; Rose, Rachael, and Rebeccah DiRegolo; and Rachel and Jackson Richmond; his brothers, Howard Richmond of Pensacola, Florida; and Claude (Rosemary) Richmond of Two Rivers; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law including John (Jeanette) Buege of Marietta, Georgia; Gretchen (Larry) Weaver of Phoenix; Paul (Priscilla) Buege of Marietta, Georgia; and Paulette (Frank) Endejan of Fond du Lac.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 8 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 12700 West Howard Avenue, New Berlin. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. in the Church before the Mass.
