Berrens, Robert Joseph Edward

Robert Joseph Edward Berrens, age 89, formerly of 1417 So. 23rd Street, Manitowoc, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2012, at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Robert was born on May 8, 1923 in Chilton, WI, son of the late Edward and Lena (Scherer) Berrens. He attended St. Augustine Grade School and later Chilton High School, where he graduated with the class of 1941. Robert served in the United States Army, was stationed in Germany during WWII and was discharged honorably. On May 25, 1957 he married the former Lois Menne at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, WI. After they moved to Manitowoc they became dedicated members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1974. Robert was employed with White House Milk Company for 25 years in Manitowoc and he was then employed with Mirro Aluminum Company for 7 years until his retirement. He enjoyed listening to the Brewers on the radio, reading autobiographies of past baseball players and watching the Packers. Robert also enjoyed going to thrift stores to "look around". Robert was a member of the American Legion Post #88, Manitowoc Chapter for 50 years.

Survivors include one brother: Eugene Berrens, Chilton; one sister: Catherine Forstner, Chilton. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews and their families and his close friend Mary Santana Bueno and her family. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ray and Ida Menne; four brothers and five sisters-in-law: Edward and Leona Berrens, Arthur and Mary Berrens, Claude and Charlotte Berrens, Vic and Betty Berrens, Deloris Berrens; one sister and two brothers-in-law: Gertrude and Jim Nemecek, Bill Forstner.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Deacon Paul Kieffer with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
