Slager, Robert J.
Robert J. Slager, age 94, of 628 Park Street #1, Reedsville (Village of Kellnersville), died Monday, June 23, 2014 at Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Robert was born on March 7, 1920 in the Township of Franklin, son of the late John and Anna (Sauer) Sleger. Robert was inducted into the United States Army
on January 26, 1942 and served in the European and African Theatre's during WWII
and was honorably discharged on December 1, 1945. On September 16, 1947 Robert was married to the former Ida E. Yohanek at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. Robert and Ida celebrated 66 years of marriage this past September. The couple farmed in the Town of Franklin until retirement moving to Kellnersville in 2009.
Robert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville, St. Joseph Holy Name Society and also ushered for many years. He was also a life member of Kubale-O'Connell VFW
Post #6179 of Kellnersville, life member of the Disabled American Veterans Post #24 of Manitowoc-Two Rivers, Gosz-Novak American Legion Post #199 of Reedsville and WFLA Lodge #221 of Menchalville.
Survivors include his wife: Ida Slager, Kellnersville; one daughter and son-in-law: Irene (Jerry) Dvorachek, New Holstein; one daughter-in-law and her husband: Carol (Paul) Schwahn, Reedsville; six grandchildren: Cindy (Patrick) Rowland, Chilton; Kevin (Boni) Dvorachek, Kaukauna; Amy (Doug) Samens, Fond du Lac; Julie (Joe) Neuser, Manitowoc; Sarah (Jim) Neuser, Reedsville; Katie (Jason) Baroun, Reedsville; 10 great grandchildren: Hunter and Connor Rowland; Colten Dvorachek; Summer and William Samens; Ariannah and Robert Neuser; Laney and Alyssa Neuser; Russell Baroun; one sister: Viola Stetson, Kellnersville; one sister-in-law: Florence Decker, Kellnersville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Anna Sleger; one son: Russell Slager; one sister and four brothers-in-laws: Molly (Quirin) Opichka; Raymond Petska; Arlin Stetson; William Decker; one sister-in-law: Helen Yohanek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. Rev. David Koch will officiate with burial of his cremated remains in the parish cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Kubale-O'Connell VFW Post #6179 of Kellnersville. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
