Backus, Scott R.
Scott R. Backus, age 44, of 2402 S. 23rd Street, Manitowoc, went to be with Jesus on Monday evening, January 7, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after battling acute myelegenous leukemia.
He was born on July 27, 1968 in Manitowoc, son of Joette (Gallenberger) Backus and the late Raymond H. Backus. Scott attended schools in the Manitowoc Public School District and earned his GED. Scott married the love of his life, Shirley, on May 14, 1999. He had a great love for music and his family and enjoyed training his German Shepherd's Dusty and Pennie. Scott enjoyed home remodeling, camping, teaching, recording music and blasting down the highway on his motorcycle. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Scott was recently employed at Mad about Music giving guitar lessons until the time of his illness. He played lead guitar in several bands over the years including Sneakers, Sound Effects, The Next Move, Waterworks and Mouse & The Fat Cats. He often mastered other parts of the songs, teaching it to the members of the band to ensure that quality sound.
Survivors include his wife: Shirley Backus, Manitowoc; two daughters: Hailey & Marissa, both at home; his mother: Joette Backus, Manitowoc; two brothers: Joseph Backus, Two Rivers, Raymond J. Backus, Manitowoc; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Mary Jo Backus-Garbe & Scott Garbe, Cleveland, Jennifer Backus & Aaron Kowalski, Manitowoc and Tammy Lande; and his mother-in-law: Patricia Backhaus, Manitowoc. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including his pet German Shepherds Dusty and Pennie. He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Louise Schnorr-Backus.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Service will be the Pastor Guy Corrigall. Private family burial services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Alverno.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 until 7:15 p.m.
