Wallace H. "Wally" Meyer

Wallace H. Meyer, 69, Kiel, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, January 6, 2013

He was born in on January 23, 1943 in Sheboygan, son of Ella (Hickman) Meyer and the late Milton Meyer. He attended Kiel High School. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1965.

On May 14, 1966 he married Beatrice A. Gries at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Osman. They enjoyed 45 years together until her death on July 19, 2011.

Wally was a dedicated and hardworking employee and Kohler Company for 37 years. At the time of his retirement in 2005 he worked in the Maintenance Department.

Wally loved building and fixing things. His passion was woodworking. He spent endless hours working in his workshop and many people benefited from his talents. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in the garden. He was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Badgers, Brewers, Packers and Kiel Raiders play. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church in School Hill. He was a very active and key member of the School Hill Athletic Club for over 35 years. He was one of the first members and served in many capacities including President and Vice President during his tenure.

Survivors include four children, David (Julie) Meyer and their children, Derek, Jordan and Rachel, Kiel; Doreen (Jay) McNatt and their son Owen, Kiel; Dean (Judy) Meyer and their daughter Isabella, Kiel; Denise Morley, Fond du lac; his mother, Ella Meyer of Manitowoc, two sisters, Janice (Fritz) Wehausen and Yvonne (Jim) Hochkammer of Manitowoc; one sister-in-law, Marion Meyer of Cleveland; three sister-in-laws, Geri (Larry) Brendel of Howards Grove; Diane (Terry) Kress of Kiel; Karen (David) Salm of Cleveland; a brother-in-law, Robert (Linda) Gries of Sheboygan. Wally is further survived by many nieces and nephews and caring friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice (Gries) Meyer; father, Milton Meyer; granddaughter, Amanda Meyer; brother, Curtis Meyer; nephew, Terry Hochkammer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Mary Ann Gries; sister-in-law, Joanne Meves; brother-in-law, Joseph Gries.

Funeral Mass for Wally will be held at 10:30am on Thursday January 10, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill with Fr. Patrick Nelson and Deacon Jim Steffen officiating. Entombment at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Family and friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St. Kiel on Wednesday January 9, 2013 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and at the Church on Thursday from 9:00am until 10:15am when we will have brief family rites.

In lieu of flowers a Memorial has been established in his name to the and the School Hill Athletic Club.
