Hardrath, Alfred C.

Alfred C. Hardrath age 97 formerly of Center Road Manitowoc, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at River Wood Estates. He was born September 13, 1915 in the Town of Kossuth, son of the late John and Olga (Rohrbach) Hardrath. He attended local grade schools and graduated from Lincoln High School.

In 1940 Alfred enlisted in the National Guard Infantry Company B, 32nd Division were he served overseas in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945 receiving the Silver Star. On April 25, 1945 he married the former Ruth Treick in the Town of Newton. She preceded him in death February 8, 2010. Alfred was employed at the Manitowoc Knitting Mills and later as a Rural Mail Carrier and a Regular Mail Carrier for 28 years until his retirement in 1978. Alfred was a member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, and member of the church Bible Class. He was also a member of the Cleveland VFW Post #8974.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: John (Kathy) Hardrath, Manitowoc; granddaughter: Amanda Hardrath, Manitowoc; sister-in-law: Lois Hau, Stockridge; Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth Hardrath; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Erwin (Alice) Hardrath; Melvin (Marion) Hardrath and Hugo Hardrath; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Ruth (Bill) VanDeHey; Fern Hardrath; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Hildagarde (Walter) Siemers; Erna (Edward) Treick; and one nephew: Tom Hardrath.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, 6524 County Trk C Manitowoc. Rev. Kyle Sorensen will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Military graveside services will be accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post #659 of Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday November 14, 2012 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
