Bernice M. Winkel, age 90, of 1325 N. 8th Street, Manitowoc, died on February 5, 2013 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Bernice was born on October 23, 1922 in Menasha, WI, daughter of John and Elsie (Widner) Spice. On May 7, 1941 she married Arthur J. Winkel in Stockbridge, WI. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1986. Bernice loved spending time with her family. She was employed for many years with a day care and also at Holy Family Memorial Hospital helping to care for sick children.
Survivors include nine children and their spouses: Eva and Dave Matthies, John and Sherry Paape, Mary Hardrath and James Gadicke, Marge and Russell Holdorf, Alice and William Mohr, Joseph and Joan Winkel, Christine Cerkas, Kathy and Art Ripley, Michael and Shelly Winkel, Bruce Williquette; 32 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren; two sisters: Donna LaMarche and Joan Wilkinson. She was preceded in death by her husband: Arthur Winkel Sr., four children: James Winkel, Patricia Genske, Arthur Winkel Jr., and Karen Williquette; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and a Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel, town of Kossuth. Officiating at the service will be her grandson, Thomas Smith, with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home and All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
