Hoeffner, Delmar A.

Del Hoeffner, 84 was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 11, 2013. He was born April 12, 1929 in Manitowoc, WI to the late Edmund and Clalie (Krueger) Hoeffner. He was received into God's Kingdom through Holy Baptism on May 5, 1929 and confessed his Faith at his confirmation on April 18, 1942 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. He attended grade school at First German Lutheran School and graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, WI in 1947 at which time he entered the job market. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from January 1951 to October 1952.

On October 18, 1952 he married Imogene Tabbert at St. John's Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, WI with Imogene's brother, the Reverand Frederic Tabbert officiating.

In July 1956 he began a 31 year career with Aid Association for Lutherans, first as District Representative in the Manitowoc area. In May 1958 he transferred to AAL's home office and began a career in Home Office Underwriting. He and his family moved to Appleton in September 1958. Del served on various industry and AAL committees including the Executive Committee of the Institute of Home Office Underwriters and conducted numerous workshops for this committee. At the time of his retirement from AAL he felt he could still contribute to the industry and was employed in St. Paul, Minnesota for two years after which he served as a contract underwriter on a full and later part-time basis for 11 years with companies in Minneapolis, Chicago, Nashville and Milwaukee. He and Imogene returned to Appleton in 1992.

Del also served on numerous boards and committees for his church in Manitowoc, Appleton, St. Paul, MN and Fox Valley Lutheran High School.

Del was an avid tennis player throughout his life. He was a long time member and past officer of the Fox Cities Racquet Club. From age 35 through 60 he was regularly ranked in the top 10 in tennis for his age group both in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of Mid Vallee Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife Imogene; five children and their spouses, Mark (Rosa), Appleton; Nancy (Scott) MacGilvray, Greenville, NC; James (Sue), Vancouver, WA; David (Rebecca), Tyler, TX; Ruth (Tom) Marquardt, Appleton; Grandchildren Nathan, Katherine, Steven, Michael, Colleen, Ross (Kelly), Eric, Emily, Andrew (Amanda), Jonathan and Zachary. He is also survived by his brother, Lloyd Hoeffner of Appleton and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Ziesemer and Arlene Tabbert.

A funeral and committal service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 302 N. Morrison St., Appleton with the Rev. Kenneth Frey officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Military honors will be conducted at the church on Monday following the service. Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Park, Manitowoc, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fox Valley Lutheran School and Wisconsin Lutheran Institutional Ministries have been established.
