Donald M. (Buffalo Don) Thompson, 90, passed away Thursday, March 28, at his home in Sedona, Ariz. Long known as "Buffalo Don", Donald and his beloved wife of 56 years, Luella M. Thompson and their four children, Jennifer, Donald Jr., Ford, and Tami Lou, moved to the Mishicot area in the summer of 1968, buying and renovating their farm home and "Buffalo Ranch", on Hillview Rd. in Gibson township. Buffalo Don was preceded in death by his wife, Luella in 2002, and beautiful daughter and long time Mishicot resident Tami Lou in December of 2012. Jennifer and husband Conrad and children, Kirsten and Conrad III, and Donald Jr. and his wife, Virginia, later moved to other locations, but Ford and Tami Lou became long time residents and business owners in Mishicot. Ford Thompson currently is the broker/owner of New Homestead Realty in Mishicot, where Tami worked as co-owner until her recent death. Buffalo Don Thompson was known throughout the Mishicot area not only as a buffalo rancher, but also as a renown area businessman following the establishment of the Buffalo Don Artesian Water Company, co-founded by his wife and business partner Luella, and son, Ford Thompson in 1982. Following Luella's death in 2002, Buffalo Don relocated to Sedona, AZ., where he lived out the remaining 11 years of his very eventful life. Don had a very distinguished military career as a sergeant and paratrooper during WWII. He fought for the liberation of France. He was severely wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and for a short time was a prisoner of war. Don was heavily decorated, receiving two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and the Presidential Citation of Honor. A memorial service will be held May 27th at the Sedona Historical Museum with his ashes and later burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia.
