Dorothy "Dixie" Meyer, age 91, a resident of Laurel Grove Assisted Living, Manitowoc, formerly of 512 New York Avenue, Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, where she had been residing for the past 6 weeks.
Dixie was born on July 16, 1921 in the town of Breed, Oconto County. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Hein Zimmerman. She was a graduate of Breed Central School in 1935. Dixie came to Manitowoc in 1942 and was employed with White House Milk Company. In 1945 she started working for Mirro Aluminum until 1949. On September 10, 1946 she married Charles J. Meyer at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2000. Dixie had been an active and long time member of the Christian Women's Society of the former Holy Innocents Catholic Church. She is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-Law: Dennis and Joyce Meyer, Waukesha, WI; Thomas and Wendy Meyer, Manitowoc; Timothy and Debbie Meyer, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Vicky and Randy Modra, Franklin, WI; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three sisters-in-law: Viola (Jerry) Schroeder, Greenleaf, WI; Florence Wellner, Manitowoc; Arlene Meyer, Littleton, CO; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Anna Zimmerman; husband: Charles J. Meyer; seven brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Richard Klingeisen with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Following the funeral services at church there will be a luncheon held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
