Harland Prochnow Obituary
Harland "Harley" P. Prochnow, age 86, of Reedsville, passed away on his birthday Monday June 18, 2012 at Brillion West Haven.

Harley was born June 18, 1926 in Valders, son of the late Elmer and Gertrude (Mahnke) Prochnow. He was a 1944 graduate of Reedsville High School. Harley served our country in the United States Navy. He was also a member of the Reedsville Fire Department for 29 years. On September 19, 1953 Harley married Geraldine "Gerry" Sauter in Phillips, WI. She preceded him in death on December 10, 1992. Harley, along with his father and brother Bud, co-owned Sentry Foods Stores in Reedsville and Brillion. In 1983 Harley and Gerry became snowbirds when they retired and purchased a home in Sun City West, Arizona. Harley wintered in Arizona until 2005 when health issues made him return to Wisconsin to be closer to family. Harley had a wide variety of interests. He was a skilled bowler having won the 1984 Arizona State Senior Bowling Championship. He loved to dance, especially polkas and waltzes. He never walked away from a good game of sheephead. Harley took great pride in his vehicles, and even after he could no longer drive he still took an interest in new cars and trucks on the lot. In his early 50's, he got his motorcycle license and would ride his Yamaha with his dog, Pepper, on the back. He enjoyed watching his sons play various sports, but his greatest joy was to watch his grandchildren at their sporting events.

Harley is survived by his special friend and companion, Dorothy Haese of Reedsville; his three children: Peggy Prochnow (special friend Chris Martin) of Newton, Perry Prochnow (special friend Renee) of Brillion, and Paul (Bonnie) Prochnow of Algoma; grandchildren: Troy Prochnow (special friend Carlye Lettenberger) of Brillion, Charlie Prochnow (special friend Allie Hayes) of DePere, Katie Prochnow of Manitowoc, and Zach Prochnow of Algoma; step-grandchildren: Chris Raymakers, Derek, Laura, and Troy Hendricks; siblings: Carlos "Bud" (Ruth) Prochnow of Reedsville, Gloria (Al) Vigil of Appleton, Marlene (Jerry) Liebergen of Fort Atkinson, and Terry (Karen) Prochnow of Reedsville; two brother-in-laws: Gene (Doris) Plate of Green Bay, and Dale "Bud" Barnard of Reedsville; nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends in both Wisconsin and Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Gerry, his parents, his mother-in-law Manila Sauter, his sister Pearl Plate, and his companion for many years, Mary Honomichl. According to Harley's wishes, only a private family service was held. He was interned with his wife at Knollwood Mausoleum.

The Prochnow family would like to thank the following for everything they have done to help Harley in the final weeks of his life: Reedsville First Responders, Valders Ambulance, Bellin Staff, Renness Rehab, Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice, Brillion West Haven, and the Reedsville Manor staff and residents.

Memorials may be made to Reedsville Fire Department, Reedsville First Responders or Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund.

Dad,

We have done as you have requested. The cattle have been cared for. The produce case looks good, and those pork chops have been cut to the perfect thickness. It is now time to turn out the lights and lock up the store for one last time. Enjoy your time with Mom - you both deserve a rest.

- Your kids and grandkids
