Vnuk, Marvin S.

Marvin S. Vnuk, age 92, a Manitowoc resident, died early Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at home, surrounded by his family.

Marvin was born on January 14, 1920 in Manitowoc, son of the late Alex and Bernice Vnuk. He grew up in Manitowoc and was educated in the local schools. Marvin served in the United States Army and was a member of the AMVETS Post 99. On September 6, 1941 he married the former Orlean S. Bartel at St. Paul Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2006. Marvin was employed at Manitowoc Ship Yard, retiring in 1979, and was also a lifetime member of St. Francis of Assisi. He loved spending time with his family whether at his favorite spot, Shawano, WI, or wherever there was a campfire and fishing. Marvin enjoyed playing golf, and no matter the course, was straight down the middle. He was an avid Packer fan and could be found watching them while having a "piece of beer" at the Eagles Club, where he was a member.

He is survived by five children and their spouses: Richard and Judy Vnuk, Sandra and William Gospodarek, Sue Ann and Kenneth Klein, Thomas and Judy Vnuk, James and Judy Vnuk, all of Manitowoc; nine grandchildren: Robb Klein, Manitowoc, Daryl (Ellen) Gospodarek, Rosemount, MN, Dale (Jenna) Gospodarek, Kenosha, Dawn Curran, Manitowoc, Darren Klein, Manitowoc, Kelly (Sean) Murphy, Grayslake, IL, Sara Vnuk, Manitowoc, Heidi Gauthier, Manitowoc, Melissa (Matt) Kent, Manitowoc; two step-grandchildren: Jesse (Bevin) Brott, Coeur d'Alene, ID, Tracy Brott, Manitowoc; fifteen great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; one brother-in-law: Roger Krause, Bradenton, FL. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Marvin was also preceded in death by one son: Ronald, on October 10, 1961; three brothers: Ray, Harold and Art Vnuk; one sister: Leonore Krause.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Military Rites will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 99 following the service at the Waldo site. Marvin will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery at a later time.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.
