Strzyzewski, Norbert M.
Norbert M. Strzyzewski, age 83, a Manitowoc resident, died Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.
He was born on November 4, 1930 in Manitowoc, son of the late Michael & Josephine (Pekulik) Strzyzewski. Norbert was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1949. He then entered the United States Marine Corps. receiving the purple heart while stationed in Korea. On May 1, 1954 he married the former Lois Leist at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Norbert was employed as a water plant operator with Manitowoc Public Utilities, retiring at the age of 60. He enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes, swimming at the YMCA and was a master griller.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Lois Strzyzewski, Manitowoc; five children and their spouses: Joseph Strzyzewski, Denver, CO, Ann (Rick) Mach, Sioux City, IA, Carol (Dave) Degen, Kansasville, WI, Thomas Strzyzewski, Brothertown, WI, Barbara (Jay) Bessey, Greenfield, WI; five grandchildren: Sarah (Byron) Smith, Chad Mach, Laurel Bessey, Taylor Bessey, Trista Bessey; two great grandchildren: Keegan & Cameron Smith; two sisters-in-law: Rosella Krueger, Manitowoc, Lucille Lallensack, Newton; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Eugene (Rosemary) Leist, Oregon. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by a grandchild: Carrie Mach; a brother and sister-in-law: Marvin & Margaret Strzyzewski; and one sister-in-law and three brothers-in-law: Coletta & Dewey Rogala, James Krueger and George Lallensack.
Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. Private family funeral services were held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Service was the Rev. David Beaudry. Military honors were accorded by V.F.W. Otto Oas Post #659 with entombment of the cremated remains at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Holy Family Memorial Hospice and Shady Lane for the loving care and compassion given to Norbert and his family. They would also like to thank Dr. Kirk Nelson at the Zablocki Medical Center with the V.A. Clinic in Milwaukee.
