Rach, Sylvester H.

Sylvester H. Rach, age 92, a resident of Laurel Grove, Manitowoc, died Monday morning, April 1, 2013 at Aurora Medical Center, Manitowoc County.

He was born on December 31, 1920 in Kiel, son of the late Henry & Hilda (Nadler) Rach. Sylvester was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II from 1941 - 1945. He was a European Operations Specialist in 4 battle areas, including the battle of the Bulge, and was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent. Sylvester served in the Army Reserves for 19 years after his active duty. On June 17, 1947 he married the former June Buechel at Elkhart Lake. She preceded him in death on March 10, 1972. Sylvester was employed as a plumber/contractor, receiving his apprentice in 1950. He was semi retired in Florida for 26 years before moving to Laurel Grove where he enjoyed playing sheepshead and bingo. He was also an active member of Legion Memorial 53 Post #1049.

Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law: Charlotte Bausano, Sheboygan, Diane& Mike Heymanns, Manitowoc, Theresa & Ron Prestmo, Menasha, Cynthia & Richard Nitsch, Manitowoc; three grandchildren: Mallory Nitsch, Manitowoc, Aliscia (Jacob) White, Plymouth, Thomas (Amanda) Bausano, Arizona; four great grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Alice Kotlar, Arizona; and a special niece: Donna Bell, Florida. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by a son: Henry "Hank" Rach; four brothers and one sister.

Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Memorial Mass will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Burial of the cremated remains will occur at St. Mary Cemetery, Sheboygan Falls, at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 until 10:45 a.m.
