Walter (Buck) Muench, age 91, formerly of Whitelaw, died on April 7, 2012 at Care Partners Assisted Living Facility in Manitowoc.Walter was born on February 8, 1921 in the town of Cato, son of the late Alois and Anna (Reiderer) Muench. On October 23, 1946 he married the former Dorothy Petska at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kellnersville. They recently celebrated their 65th. wedding anniversary. He was a devoted family man, and a lifelong member of St. Michaels's Parish.

He was a member of the Holy Name Society, and had served as a trustee for the church. He was involved with farming most of his life, initially taking over the family homestead and later another farm in the town of Cato. After his retirement from farming in 1983, he enjoyed traveling, gardening, and continuing to follow his favorite sports teams. He loved his Boston Celtics, Chicago Bears and especially the Chicago Cubs, although they continually let him, his brothers, and sons down. He loved playing cards, particularly Sheepshead. He played with family and friends, and also in tournaments across the state.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Manitowoc; 10 children, Paul (Nancy) Muench, Newton; Robert (Sondra) Muench, Ft. Atkinson; Barb (Leroy) Krepline, Reedsville; Sandy Muench, Cato; Tom (Kathy) Muench, Manitowoc; Debbie (Bill) Nate, Manitowoc; Steve Muench, Cato; Joan Nickels, Manitowoc; Cathy (Bryan) Weber, Stafford, VA; and Todd Muench, Whitelaw; two sisters-in-law, Luella Muench, Manitowoc; and Viola Stetson, Kellnersville. Additionally, he is survived by 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Louis (Agnes) Muench, Bernard (Lydia) Muench, Oscar Muench, Richard Muench, Norbert (Margaret) Muench; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Agnes (Clarence) Kocian), Lucille (Reuben) Marshburn; his mother-in-law, Clara Petska; one sister-in-law and her husband, Marie (Norman) Kubsch; one brother-in-law, Raymond Petska; one son-in-law, Norby Moncada; three nephews, Dr. Kenneth Kubsch, Kevin Kubsch, and Allan Petska; one niece, Janice Ringmeier.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Rev. Dave Zimmerman will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home 1124 Main St. Kellnersville on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11: a.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.jensreinboldandpfeffer.com.
