Stecker, Earl G.

Earl G. Stecker, age 88, formerly of 10628 CTH JJ, Manitowoc, went to his eternal home in heaven on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center of Manitowoc.

Earl was born on July 24, 1925, in Manitowoc, son of the late Martin and Esther (Behnke) Stecker. He was a 1943 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Earl served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II from February of 1945 and was honorably discharged in December of 1946 as a Sergeant. Earl met his future wife, Joanne where she worked at the Pauly Cheese Factory.

On August 14, 1948 Earl was married to Joanne M. Johnston at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2010. He was employed in the family business (Heinz Mills Cheese Factory) until his father sold the business. Earl then went to work for Anheuser-Busch and retired after 25 years. He enjoyed his family and liked getting together with his brothers to talk politics. Earl and Joanne would spend their summer vacations with Joanne's sister and brother-in-law Jean and Larry Christiansen in northern Wisconsin.

Earl was a member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, and served on various boards and was an usher. Earl was a proud Republican.

Survivors include his four children: David (Dianne) Stecker of Newton; Gerald (Donna) Stecker of Manitowoc; Caroll ( Donald) Hoffmann of Manitowoc; Charles (Cheryl) Stecker of Manitowoc; fifteen grandchildren: Angela (Shaun) Zucchi, Jason Stecker, Jonathen (Heather) Stecker, Aaron (Carrie) Stecker, Holly (Shane) Osborne, Jennifer (Brad) Kurtzweil, Karen (Matt) Oswald, Brian (Laura) Stecker, Linda (David) Mills, Richard (Gloria) Thom, Christopher (Jennifer) Thom, Matthew Thom, Susan Karatas, Andrew (Tatum) Stecker and William (Abbie) Stecker; thirty-one great-grandchildren; one step grandson; and four step great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister-in-law: Paul (Jane) Stecker of Manitowoc; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Lawrence (Janice) Johnston of Cottonwood, Arizona and Jolly Johnston, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Martin and Esther Stecker; his wife: Joanne Stecker; one grandson: Benjamin Thom; two brothers and one sister-in-law: John Stecker; Eugene (Lucille) Stecker; one nephew: Dennis Stecker; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law: Dorothy (Anton) Vogel; Jean (Lawrence) Christiansen; Barbara Bashaw; and Roger Johnston.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. The Rev.'s Robert Kujawski and Stephen Melso will officiate with burial to follow at the Knollwood Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may call on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Earl's name for Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church.
