Harder, Henry F.
Henry F. Harder, age 89, died peacefully with his wife at his side on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Henry, son of Henry and Elise (Hediger) Harder, was born on January 31, 1925 in his parent's farm home near Neillsville, Wisconsin. He attended Mound Grade School and graduated from Neillsville High School, class of 1942. He served in the 9th Air Force from 1943 to 1945 and, using his G.I. Benefits, graduated from the University of Wisconsin, College of Agriculture, majoring in dairy industry in 1949. He was married to the former Marjorie Price on Oct. 9, 1954 in Madison, Wisconsin.
He was employed by A & P Tea Company and the White House Milk Division, Manitowoc from 1949 until 1976, in research and development. He then became the plant manager of the Lake to Lake fluid milk plant in Sheboygan, retiring in 1988.
In retirement he became an active volunteer for the Manitowoc Maritime Museum and the Manitowoc County Historical Society. He devoted many happy hours restoring and maintaining buildings, grounds and artifacts at Pinecrest Historical Village.
He is survived by his devoted wife: Marjorie (Peg); daughters: Cynthia (Bruce) Hagen of Columbus, Ohio; Karen Harder (Jeff Dean) of Fort Collins, Colorado; and son: Bruce (Ava Altman) of Waban, Massachusetts; and six granddaughters: Lindsay (Joe) Ypma; Abigail Hagen; Rachel Dean; Erin Dean; Natalie Harder; Rebecca Harder; and one great granddaughter: Delilah Ypma. Henry was the eldest of five brothers: Ben; Rene; Hans (deceased) and Alan (deceased). He had many special cousins, nieces and nephews in this country and in Switzerland.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, 2801 Garfield Street, Two Rivers. Rev. Kim Henning will officiate. Family will greet relatives and friends Sunday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials made in Henry's name to the Manitowoc County Historical Society are appreciated.
