Edna D. (Sorensen) Kjelstrup, age 92, a resident of Hamilton Care Center, Two Rivers, Wis., formerly of Cherokee Village, Ark. and Racine, Wis., died Sunday afternoon, May 6, 2012, at the center.

Edna was born March 3, 1920, in Racine, a daughter of the late Soren P. and Karen M. (Christenson) Sorensen. She graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine with the class of 1937. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps from December17, 1943 until January 11, 1946, obtaining the rank of Corporal. On December 11, 1945, she married Ross G. Kjelstrup at Atonement Lutheran Church in Racine. Edna was employed as a secretary with the Racine Public Schools, retiring in 1980. Edna loved to sing, golf and travel. She was a Gimper Girl during her heyday in Racine and kept lifelong connections with old friends there. She was a gentle soul who will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband: Ross G. Kjelstrup, Two Rivers, Wis.; one son and daughter-in-law: Rod (Cheryl) Kjelstrup, Mishicot, Wis.; one daughter and son-in-law: Mary V. (Bill) McCanna, Corsica, Penn.; six grandchildren: John R. Serpe, Kenosha, Wis., Christopher Kjelstrup, Yuba City, Calif., Andrew Kjelstrup, Madison, Wis., Bill (Cherlyn Seruto) Wildenberg, Santa Barbara, Calif., W. Douglas (Tara) McCanna, Thornville, Ohio, and Brian R. (Sherrie) McCanna, Eagle, Wis.; and three great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister-in-law: Doris Allen, Great Falls, Mont., along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1950; her brother: Orville J. Sorensen; a sister: Elsie V. Sorensen; special cousin: Gordon Lisby; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jack and Ida Kjelstrup.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Graceland Cemetery in Racine, Wis.
