James L. Broderick, age 74 of Kewaunee died on Thursday, June 21, 2012. He was born on October 10, 1937 in Manitowoc to the late Ephraim and Cecille (Zeiss) Broderick.
He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc in 1956. He then graduated from Manitowoc Teachers College. James was a teacher and principal of Fairwater grade school. Against his mother's wishes, he pursued a career in concrete construction, following in his dad's footsteps, as a sales person for Medusa Cement Co. Of Manitowoc. In 1963 he started his own concrete company known as Redi-Mix. After selling his company he went to work managing the ready mix division of VanDerVaart, Inc. Of Sheboygan, WI. He later formed a partnership with Charlie and Reed Harvey forming Harvey-Broderick Transit where he worked until retiring to Kewaunee to his great grandparents homestead.
He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army.
He married Frances Leick in 1959 they had two children, Deborah and Jamie. He then married Gini Tardiff in 2004 and she preceded him in death in 2011.
Jim enjoyed his cottage in Door County, especially his pontoon boat.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Deborah and Jim Webb, Manitowoc; one son: James Broderick, School Hill, WI; a sister-in-law: Deloris Broderick, Greendale, WI; also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister: Ruth (Bob) Pribek and a brother John Broderick.
Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A short memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. with his nephew, Fr. Jim Pribek officiating. After the service, there will be a celebration of Jim's life at the Port-O-Call Restaurant in Kewaunee.
