Nancy L. (Kane) Skaletski, 72, Maribel, died peacefully, Sunday, November 25, 2012, following a short illness. She was born April 26, 1940, in Green Bay, to Jerome and Eleanor (Grimm) Kane. Nancy graduated from Denmark High School and later graduated from Holy Family College, now Silver Lake College, with a degree in Elementary Education. She began teaching fulltime at Wayside Elementary School and later taught for many years at Cormier School in Ashwaubenon. Nancy also taught in the Sarasota, Florida School System for 25 years and was at one time Sarasota County Teacher of the Year.
Nancy was active in the community. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota (an educational sorority) and served as the National President. Nancy was a member of the Brown County Community Women's Club. She was an active member of the Green Bay Area Exchange Club and was instrumental in starting the Ribs Fest Fundraiser for the Club. She held many offices including President and Division Director of Wisconsin-Upper Peninsula District.
Nancy was a member of St. Mary Parish in Stark and held many positions in the Parish. She was active in many local charities including House of Hope and Heaven's Touch. For several years she was a volunteer for Unity Hospice. Nancy enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and entertaining her family and friends. She had a loving, giving heart and will be remembered for her charity work and outgoing personality.
Survivors include a son, Steve (Denise Lundy) Bielinski; a daughter, Melissa (Mike Perry) Bielinski; her grandchildren, Jasmine, Heather, Jared, Sabrina, Skyla and Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Montrel; her sister, Sandra (Larry Nelson) MacIntyre; a niece and nephew, Andrew and Amy MacIntyre; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Eleanor Kane; two brothers, Gene Kane and Kenneth Kane; a brother-in-law, Peter MacIntyre; a sister-in-law, Marlene Kane; a nephew, Matthew Kane; and her fiancé, Jerry Pokel.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may also call at St. Mary Catholic Church, 6019 County Road NN, Stark, WI, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Ron Colombo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery immediately following the Mass.
