Richard C. Smith age 81 of 5828 Calumet Avenue, Manitowoc died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.
Richard was born June 1, 1931, in Manitowoc son of the late Albert and Dorothy (Schroeder) Smith. He attended school in Manitowoc and graduated with the class of 1949 from Lincoln High School. Richard served in the United States Army from 1951-1954. On July 21, 1956, he married the former Gloria J. Voigt at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valders. Richard was the former president and owner of A.F. Smith & Sons. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Stephen Ministry, Manitowoc County Civil War Round Table, Manitowoc County Historical Society, Civil War Round Table of Milwaukee and the Golden K Kiwanis of Manitowoc.
Survivors include his wife: Gloria Smith, Manitowoc; three children: Catherine (Brian) Johnson, Winamac, IN; Susan Smith, Manitowoc; Perry (Laurie) Smith, Sayner, WI; five grandchildren: Karl and Kurt Johnson, Winamac, IN; Melissa (Adam) Schmidt, IA; Travis (Tabitha) Seefeldt, Appleton; Ross (Kristen) Seefeldt, Valders; five great grandchildren: Tatum, Talia, Morgan, Hadley and Teegan; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Jean (Grant) Hartman, Evansville, IN; Marjorie (Alan) Loehndorf, Fond du Lac; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Vic (Chris) Voigt, Collins; Ione Voigt, Lake Mills, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law: Fulton (Carol) Smith; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Oliver Voigt; Lloyd (Verna Mae) Voigt; and Beverly (Ed) Meyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church, 225 Roosevelt Street, Valders. Rev. Jim Rasmus and Rev. Erica Cunningham will officiate. Burial will follow at Our Savior's Cemetery, Valders. Military graveside services will be accorded by the VFW Otto-Oas Post #659. Relatives and friends may call at the church Monday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 am until 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church and Manitowoc County Historical Society.
