FALL RIVER, WI—Sandra R. "Sandy" Vassar Krebs Braun age 73, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at her home after an eight-year battle with cancer. Sandy was born to Ernest and Helen (Petrasek) Vassar on October 13, 1939 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, where she attended St. Luke's Grade School and graduated from Washington High School in 1957. Sandy graduated from UW-LaCrosse. After moving to Pennsylvania, she worked as a swim instructor and swim coach for 20 years at Sarah Heinz House. She continued to maintain this position at the Heinz House Camp for girls. She was a pre-school teacher at the Family Development Center in Wexford, PA for 22 years. She was married to John Krebs on May 14, 1971 in Cranberry Township, PA. After his death in 1992, Sandy was married to William "Bill" Braun on May 14, 2005, in Madison and moved back to Wisconsin. She continued to teach swimming lessons and volunteered as a Teacher's Aid at St. Jerome Catholic School in Columbus, Wisconsin. Sandy loved gardening, crafting and working with children. Survivors include her husband, Bill of Fall River; two daughters, Marie (Gregory) Glad of Brunswick OH; Frances (Scott) Clarke of Arlington WA; three sons, John Krebs Jr. of Vero Beach FL; Frank (Terri) Krebs of Butler PA; Michael Krebs of Durham NC; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, John.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, June 17, 2013, at ST PETER THE FISHERMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, with Rev. Dick Mauthe officiating. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Two Rivers. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M. at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the Beaver Dam YMCA.
