Eugene J. Jansen, age 82, a Manitowoc resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 18, 1931 in Kaukauna, WI., son of the late Curtis & Fern (Kraemer) Jansen. Eugene attended the Kaukauna School System. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from 1948 to 1955 where he served in Japan and Germany and also during the Korean Conflict. On July 16, 1964 he married the former Dorothy Naidl at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. This coming July they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Eugene was a welder for the Manitowoc Company for 16 years and later was employed with Kahlenberg Brothers of Two Rivers from which he retired. Eugene loved woodworking and was a Green Bay Packers & Wisconsin Badgers fan. He also enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, gardening and walking. Eugene was a member of the American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88.
Survivors include his wife: Dorothy Jansen, Manitowoc; a daughter and son-in-law: Julie & Jack Wetenkamp, Manitowoc; a son: Eugene Jansen Jr., Port Washington; two grandchildren: Heather Wetenkamp and her fiancé Zach Feldhacker, Josh Wetenkamp and his special friend Felicia; twelve sisters and two brothers. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his step mother: Gladys Jansen; one sister and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Beaudry. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, and military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013. Friends may also call Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the morning prayers at 10:30 a.m.
