Donald Foisie, 81, of Humble, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Donald is survived by his wife, Rita Foisie; his daughter, Donna Crocker and her husband Gary; his son, Daniel Foisie and his wife Donna; and son David Foisie. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Jennifer Loehding and husband Ryan; Sharon Dearth and husband Anthony; Kendra Foisie; and Ryan Foisie; six great-grandchildren, Cara, Paige, Sean, Joshua, Raegan and Lauren; and two sisters, Dorothy Boucher of Tampa, Florida and Shirley Messier of Nashua, New Hampshire.
Donald was born November 22, 1931 in Nashua, New Hampshire. On September 13, 1952 he married the former Rita Bergeron and they enjoyed 60 years together. Donald was a decorated war hero, a Purple Heart veteran who dedicated his life to raising awareness of soldiers lost in Korea, the Forgotten War. After leaving the military, Don was a self-employed business owner in the Humble area. He was a published author, poet, and sought-after public speaker, having gained recognition for penning "Red Blood in the Sand," "Small Pocket Bible," and "I Am the American Flag", among other works. He was also an accomplished painter and wood-carver, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Don could often be seen in the community attending his grandchildren's many athletic and dance events, one of his favorite pastimes.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 22 at Atascocita Lutheran Church, 7927 FM 1960 East, with Pastor David Tart officiating. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery (Veterans Memorial), 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive. Donations may be made to the Donald Robert Foisie Memorial Fund which provides scholarships to the Kingwood High School ROTC.
