James Russell "Jim" Long

Jim Long, 71, was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and grew up in Knoxville, Tenn. At an early age Jim was fascinated with the interworking of electronics and what makes things work. That passion flourished when he graduated from West High School, and the University of Tennessee with a B. S. degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Early in his career, he designed loud speakers, then more complex electronics. He holds several patents for his designs. At the time of his death on July 19, 2016, in Huntsville, Ala, he was employed as an electrical engineer at NTA in Huntsville.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Scott Long, and loving parents, Dr. Virgil E. and Genevieve Long. He is survived by sister, Lucinda Genevieve Long Hall, Brentwood, Tenn.; her sons and grandchildren: Charles Christopher Hall, and Chris's daughter, Christina Lynn Hall, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and Gregory Louis Hall, his wife, Sheina, and their children, Genevieve Mella and Keldryck William Hall, of Tallahassee, Fla. He is also survived by his brother, William Edward Long, and his wife, Sharon, their children and grandchildren: Melanie Renee Mills and husband, Raymond, and their son, Blake Walters; April Dawn Campbell and husband, Scott, and their daughters: April Rain and Sayde Lakyn Campbell, all of Knoxville, Tenn.
A memorial service with the Rev. Mike Ratliff officiating will be held at Latham United Methodist Church, 109 Weatherly Rd., S.E., Huntsville, AL 35803, Sunday, August 7, 2016, with visitation at 3 p.m. and service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Downtown Rescue Mission, Huntsville, Ala.; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of choice.
