Kyle Samples Obituary

Kyle Kent Samples, aged 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Huntsville, Alabama on Friday, February 12, 2021. Kyle was born on January 18, 1943 to Milford "Tye" Samples and Mildred Johnson Samples in Huntsville, AL at the King Street Lincoln Mill Village home of his maternal grandparents, Charles and Gernie Knowles Johnson. He loved recounting stories of his childhood in Lincoln and used to tell his family he had so much fun there that he didn't even know he was poor while he was growing up. Kyle attended Lincoln Elementary, Madison Academy, Lee Jr. High and Huntsville High School, where he was a member of the close-knit Class of 1962. During his school days in Huntsville, Kyle met the love of his life, his wife Marsha, as well as many dear and lifelong friends. Kyle was also a proud graduate of Auburn University, though his college graduation was delayed while he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. While he was stationed on the island of Hokkaido in Chitose, Japan, he was fortunate enough to be accompanied by his wife Marsha and they used to say that this time in Japan was some of the most fun they ever had. Before retiring as a contract specialist from the U.S. Department of the Army, Kyle was employed in Huntsville by First Fidelity Bank as well as Allstate Insurance Company. Kyle was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marsha Lee Jones Samples, and his sister Trudy Samples Clark. He is survived by daughter Lee Anne Samples Bryant and husband Jason Bryant, son Stuart Hiram Jones Samples and wife Rachael Verschoore Samples, granddaughters Elizabeth Ryan Samples, Wren SiHui Lee Bryant and Sloan Marie Samples, sister Brenda Samples Rigsby (Jim), nephews Brian Macielag (Lori) and Matt Clark (April), all of Huntsville, AL; sister-in-law Sheila Jones Robbins of Columbia, SC and niece Elizabeth Lee Robbins of Lexington, SC and niece Rebecca Calloway Robbins Derrick (James) of Mount Airy, NC. The family would like to especially thank Janice Farmer, Susie Bishop and Ruby Caples for all the friendship, concern and care they provided for Kyle, particularly during the last 18 months. The family would also like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their wonderful support. A private service for family and close friends will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, or a charity of your choice.

Lee Anne, Stuart and Family,

Our hearts are saddened by the news of Kyle's passing. He was a good friend and classmate. Just the thought of he and Marsha re-uniting for eternity brings a smile to my face.

Kyle was one of my Mother's All-Time favorite students at Lincoln. Whether it was his studious manner or his famous eyes and charm she never said. It seems she had him in both the 2nd and 5th grades. It was always a delight when she saw him in later years.

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with each of you in this time of grief...but we know we will see them together on the other side.

Lee Anne Bryant
