Alfred J.R. "Al" Lopez, 76, passed away on October 28, 2013 at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, ID with his family by his side.
He was born to Fred and Arvilla Lopez on December 13, 1936 in Morrell, Nebraska. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1956. He went on to further his education and became a licensed Denturist, a career he loved for over 50 years at People's Denture Center which he owned and operated. He was appointed to the Idaho State Board of Denturity, in which he served for over 20 years. He married Vera Reichner on April 4, 1959 in Nampa, ID. They celebrated 54 years of marriage. He also had the Lopez dance band. They played throughout the Treasure Valley for over 40 years. Music was his greatest passion. His band family included his brother John, daughter Alessa, niece Becky Westerberg, Ruben Santistevan and Norm Rutledge.
He was in the Canyon County Mounted Sheriffs Posse for 38 years. He loved the community involvement and being outdoors riding horses. He also belonged to the Nampa Elks Lodge
and the Nampa Eagles Lodge. He had many friends at each and was considered a friend to all. He served in the Untied States Army and Idaho National Guard. He loved fishing and hunting in his beautiful Idaho.
He was so proud of his daughter Alessa and all she has accomplished with her education and her career. It was because of her love and compassion that made his last years here on earth more comfortable.
He is survived by his wife Vera, his daughter Alessa Lopez-Castor (Glen), Teri Martin (Bob), numerous nieces and nephews, and his son Steven Lopez. His granddaughter Alessandra Lopez-Castor and grandson A.J. Lopez-Castor were the light of his life and he enjoyed teaching them how to fish, ride horses, drive 4-wheelers and a tractor. He was their biggest fan at all of their sporting events. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and son, Sister Ethel, his brothers John and Bill, and his in-laws Dick and Lillian Reichner.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa with Pastor Doug Peake officiating and military honors by the United States Army.
