David Ward

David Leslie Ward
August 14, 1932 - February 8, 2014
On August 14, 1932 in Nampa, ID, David Leslie Ward was born to Ralph and Lorena Mendenhall Ward. He was the youngest of 9 children. He attended Nampa schools until graduating from Nampa High School in 1950. He started working at Pacific Fruit Express shortly after graduation, and later joined the Union Pacific Railroad.
He married Frances Melvina Weeks on Feb 8, 1952, and they made their home south of Nampa where they raised their 5 children. Dave and Vina were avid sportsmen, hunting and fishing, spending many summer days in the mountains with their children in tow, and then later taking their grand children as well.
After 42 years on the railroad, he retired. Dave and Vina then spent the winters in Arizona with family and friends.
After Vina passed in 2009, Dave married Marge Weeks.
Dave passed on Feb 8, 2014 (age 81), which would have been his 62nd anniversary with Vina.
Dave was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, and his late wife Vina. He is survived by his wife, Marge, his brother Ralph Ward, his 5 children Cheryl (Carl) Follick, Sandra (Ken) Sparks, Davey (Nancy) Ward, Glen (Sarah) Ward, and Dale Ward. Also his grandchildren: Curtis Jones, Laura Jones, Amanda Grantham, James Follick, Jeffery Ward, Kenny Sparks, Amy Davis, Brett Ward, Brandon Ward, Brittany McCoy, Kaylie Ward, Tucker Ward, and Ella Ward. He also has 9 great grandchildren.
Dave will be remembered for his passion for the outdoors. His children still recall how their hard working father was a jack of all trades who could fix almost anything. And while he taught them his hard work ethic, he also made sure they knew how important it was to take time to enjoy their passions, as they went on more hunting and fishing trips than they can remember. His grandchildren recount many camping trips where he let them drive his boat and chase ducks on the lake.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Legacy Hospice, especially Damien, Brian, and Eric. Their excellent care and attention was second to none, and worth more than can be expressed here.
The celebration of Dave's life will be held at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel on Wednesday February 12, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. An online guest book may be signed at www.nampafuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Legacy Hospice and Home Care, 680 S. Progress Ave, Meridian, ID 83642 208.895.8686.
