Douglas Eugene Parsons

Douglas Eugene Parsons, 75, of Melba, died Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Boise.
Doug was born Nov. 22, 1938 at St. Luke's, Boise, to Donald Eugene Parsons and Gertrude (Wymer) Parsons from Melba Idaho. He graduated from Melba High School in 1956. During his Senior year he joined the Idaho National Guard and transferred to the US Air Force
June 30th. He met, fell in love and married Ruth Eileen Meredith in Youngstown, Ohio, May 1, 1959.
After Officer Candidate School he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. He served with SAC, MAC and TAC Commands. While serving with the 63rd Wing, 15th Squadron, he flew monthly missions into Vietnam for 10 years. He received the Top Gun Award. He flew C-124, C-141, B-47, F-4's and F-111's. His military service had him acquire almost 7,000 hours of flying time. He retired as a Major, June 30th, 1976.
1979 he bought the Boise Foundry and continued running it for 35 years. Doug was active in the Melba Baptist Church, 4th of July Celebration, Melba Historical Museum, IPCUG (computer club), MOAA (military club), and the DAV (veterans). In July, Doug and Ruth received "Melba Citizen of the Year" for 2014.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years Ruth E. (Meredith) Parsons, his son David Eugene Parsons and wife Anne E. (Fay) Parsons, his daughter Deborah E. (Parsons) Taylor and husband Don B. Taylor, 3 grandchildren Aisha (Parsons) Freeland and husband Albert Freeland, Derik Eugene Parsons and wife Stephanie (Westberry) Parsons, Katelyn Eileen (Taylor) Barthlome and husband Parker Barthlome, and 4 great grandchildren Ayana Lei Freeland and Ayla Christine Freeland, and Stephen Patrick Westberry and Danae Lynn Parsons. 2 sisters Ina Kay (Parsons) Bradford and husband Donald Bradford, Ruth Ann (Parsons) Lang and husband Larry Lang.
Viewing will be held on Friday Aug 15th at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 Tenth Avenue South Nampa, ID 83651, between 5 pm - 7 pm. Funeral held Sat. Aug 16th 2014 at 10 am at the Melba Baptist Church. Gravesite service afterward at the Melba Cemetery. A luncheon reception will be held at the Melba Baptist Church afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Melba Baptist Church in Melba Idaho.
