George "Larry" Nelson

George "Larry" Nelson, 76, of Caldwell was born to eternal life on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at a Boise care center. He died of natural causes.
Larry was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on March 5, 1936 to George and Ruth (Creeden) Nelson, the first of four sons. He attended Catholic schools, graduating from Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton, MA in 1954. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force
and was eventually stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base. While on leave, he met his wife of fifty years, Frances "Fran" (Clark) Ares in Boise. They were married on March 5, 1957 in Boise and had four children. The family lived in Boise, Emmett, Nampa, McMinnville, OR and Parma. Fran and Larry eventually retired in Caldwell in 1990.
Larry spent his career working in retail management, Falk's ID department store during the 1960s and Terry's Dept. Store in Parma during the 1970s. He also served on the Parma City Council for eight years and was active in the Lions Club and several other civic organizations.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Fran Nelson, his parents, and a younger brother, Kenneth Nelson, of East Bridgewater, MA. He is survived by his children, Steve Nelson of Nampa, Terri Wallace (Terry) of Parma, Sandy Pickrel (Jed) of Nampa and Mike Nelson (Barbara) of Meridian. He is also survived by two brothers, David Nelson and Raymond Nelson of Massachusetts. Larry also had nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren whom are all very special to him.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the entire staff at the Idaho State Veteran's Home in Boise for their kind, attentive and professional care of our father during his final months.
Funeral services will include a viewing at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 1, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Caldwell on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 10:30 AM.
