Gordon Scarth

Gordon Ralph Scarth
July 17, 1921 - February 11, 2014
Gordon Ralph Scarth passed away February 11, 2014 at a local retirement center from natural causes He was born July 17, 1921 near Preeceville, Sasketchewan, Canada, to Ralph and Edith Scarth. He was the oldest child with a sister Hazel and brother Raymond. The family lived at the headquarters of the Porcupine Forest Reserve.
About 1930, Gordon's family moved to their homestead where Gordon and his sister attended Brookview School. He talked about walking two miles there and back with Hazel. They skied when the snow was too deep to walk through. He worked for many years on the homestead near Endeavor, raising wheat, oat, barley, and hay. Gordon enjoyed Saturday night dances at the community hall. Before the hall existed, dances were held in people's homes. Every winter from 1945-1970, Gordon was the sawyer for Fred Dolton's sawmill. In 1946, Gordon purchased and farmed a 160 acre farm and later built a new home on the land.
In 1973, Gordon met Jane Vail in Nampa, Idaho, and they were married the following year. They lived on the farm in Sasketchewan in the summer, and winter months were spent in Nampa. They loved to travel in their various campers and trailers, visiting all but one Canadian province and every state but 2 in the U.S. They spent many winters with friends in the southern states.
In 1989, Gordon and Jane retired and moved to Osoyoos, British Columbia. They sold their farm to Gordon's brother Raymond. In 1994, they moved to Nampa where they enjoyed their retirement days, sharing their home with family and friends from Canada and the states. Gordon has lived at Sunny Ridge Retirement Center after Jane passed away in 2006. He will be remembered for his sweet spirit, spontaneous chuckle, being cooperative and easy-going. Gordon and Jane loved to say "we've been married 32 years and never had a row".
Gordon is survived by his sister Hazel Roste, Quesnel, BC, Canada, brother Ray (Frankie) Scarth, Endeavor, Sasketchewan, Canada, step-children Dianna (Wayne ) Gunderson, Nampa ID, Virg (Elaine) Vail, Pahrump, NV, Dean (Debbie) Vail , Wilsonsville, OR and many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
