James Marvin Syme

James "Jim" Marvin Syme passed away at his home May 29, 2014 in Middleton, Idaho. Jim and his twin sister, Jeanne, were born in Ontario, OR May 13, 1932 to J. Carl and Anna Syme. He grew up in the Parma and Roswell area and graduated from Parma High School. He served in the United States Army in the early 1950's and was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Parma and married his first wife Donna Arnold in 1955. They had 2 children, Joan Marie and James Kent. He used his G.I. bill to get his pilot's license and flew as an executive pilot for many years. He loved to fly and had his pilot's license for nearly 50 years. Flying was the job he enjoyed the most. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when fishing, riding his ATV and spending time with friends and family.
Jim bought Caldwell Floral in 1983 and ran it with his daughter Joan for 5 years. He sold it to her and her husband in 1988.
Jim was a skilled craftsman and took great pride in creating beautiful woodwork and artistic stained glass. He enjoyed having coffee with his buddies in the mornings and was often at local coffee shops sharing stories.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald Syme. He is survived by his brother Dr. John H. Syme (Gloria) of Seneca, SC, his twin sister Jeanne Hall (Jim) of Salt Lake City, UT, his brother Bruce Syme (Lila) of Salt Lake City, UT; his daughter Joan Seidenstucker (Duane) of Caldwell, ID and son J. Kent Syme of Nampa, ID; grandchildren Chad Bewley (Tara), Dr. James Bewley (Bethany), Alyssia Carson (John), Kathleen Spear (Daniel) and Donna Syme; and four great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation at Flahiff Chapel in Caldwell Wednesday June 4, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00pm.
