June Marie Lowber
June 15, 1923 - April 14, 2014
June Marie (Brockus) Lowber, 90, of Nampa, peacefully went to be with her Lord and joined her loving husband Monday, April 14, 2014. June was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother.
June was born June 15, 1923 in Meridian Idaho to Russell and Stella Brockus. She attended Lower Fairview grade school, graduated from Nampa High School and attended McPherson College for 2 years where she received a provisional Teaching Certificate. She returned to Idaho and taught grades 1-8 at Lower Fairview School.
June married William L. Lowber on May 25, 1944. They made their home on a farm south of Nampa where they were partners in every aspect and she could always be found in the garden, the fields or among the animals.
June joined the Nampa School District in 1958 as a substitute teacher in grades 1-8 as well as the sole teacher of children of migrant workers during the summer. She then began teaching 7th and 8th grade Language Arts at West Junior High where she remained for 28 years. While there she also coached volleyball and was honored as Teacher of the Year. During this time she resumed her education at Northwest Nazarene College earning a B.A. in Education.
June's involvement in the community included: Delta Kappa Gamma, Church Women United, Crop Walk and life long member of the Church of the Brethren. In each organization, she served in a variety of leadership roles.
June supported both Nampa High and Skyview sports. She avidly followed, attended and supported her children and grandchildren in their sports, 4-H, Debate and other activities.
June was the youngest of 7 siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Stella Brockus, husband W.L. Lowber, 3 brothers Lloyd, John and Glen Brockus,3 sisters, Pearl Smith, Fern Comstock and Flora May Orr.
She is survived by her son, Ken Lowber of Nampa, daughters Barbara (LeRoy) Heckathorn of Nampa and Marcia (Ken) Leonard of Auburn, WA, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-children.
After surviving a life changing stroke and the sudden death of her husband in 2008, June spent the last 4 years enjoying life at Streamside Assisted Living in Nampa. The family would like to thank the staff there and Treasure Valley Hospice for the loving care they provided for mom. June's life epitomized the Biblical principle of God First, Others Second and Self Last. She will be remembered by all who knew and loved her for her humility, tender spirit, quick wit, and servant's heart!
The family will greet friends and family at a visitation on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. A funeral service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Nampa Church of the Brethren.
