Kenneth Stark

Kenneth "Ken" Stark
1922 - 2014
Kenneth Julius Stark, 92 of Nampa, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on May 20, 2014.
He had always dreamed of flying and was able to attain his private pilot's license at the young age of 17. In 1940 he joined the U.S. Navy hoping to become a Naval Aviator. The outbreak of World War II cut short that dream as he was instead assigned to work on submarines stationed in Hawaii. He proudly served as a veteran of WWII from 1940 to 1946.
Kenneth was raised in Michigan but like many G.I.s passing through California, he liked what he saw and made that state his home through much of his work life. While still in the Navy he proposed to the love of his life, Nellie Virgean Purcey, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary earlier this year. They had many adventures together as they raised three children and traveled the world. Kenneth was a proud member of The Pipefitters Union Local # 250 and carried his membership card in his wallet throughout the years of his retirement. Kenneth spent many enjoyable years as a member of the Freemasons. He was a past master of Long Beach Lodge and continued his active membership when he and Nellie moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona after his retirement. He was called upon by the Lodges in Arizona to perform rituals and train new members since he had such a vast knowledge of Masonic rites.
Kenneth was an enthusiastic ham radio operator and had a shortwave tower installed in his yard so that he could communicate with people all over the world. This was, of course, in the pre-internet days.
After many years in Arizona, Kenneth and Nellie packed up his collection of bolo ties, and moved to Nampa in 2006, to be close to extended family. In the later part of his life it was his family that brought him the greatest joy.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nellie Stark, his children Kenneth Stark, Shirley Delaney, Duane Stark, his five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many friends. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at the Meridian Friends Church, 1021 W. Pine on Friday, May 23, 2014. A viewing will begin at 10:00 AM. Remembrances may be left for the family online at Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.
