August 16, 1925 - August 12, 2013
Mark McKinney, 87, of Nampa, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013 at his home. He was the eighth of nine children born and raised on a remote Arizona cattle ranch where life was "all work and no play." He joined the USAAF immediately after graduation from high school and was honorably discharged in February 1946. On August 22, 1946, he married Jean Y. McClellan and they raised five children-Richard, Karen, Darcy, Carolyn, and Lloyd.
After graduating from the University of Arizona, he earned his graduate degree from Montana State University. Returning to Arizona, he taught at the U of A and then worked at the university experiment station in Yuma while homesteading 160 acres. Selling the homestead, the family moved to Idaho where he worked as a researcher and agricultural engineer for Ore-Ida and then H J Heinz for the next 27 years.
He enjoyed traveling and he and Jean traveled extensively after his retirement in 1987. He also enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful items for his family.
Mark was a 50-year member of both the Masonic lodge and the Elks as well as a member of various professional organizations.
His humor, laughter, and integrity, as well as his keen (and often hilarious) observations of life will long be remembered by his survivors including his wife Jean, 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Frances of Tucson, Arizona, and Marjorie of Peoria, Arizona.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. A reception will follow. An online guest book may be signed at www.nampafuneralhome.com
