Raymond Navarro Camacho

Ray was born in Los Angeles, California on September 27, 1931 as the second of four children. He graduated from Lincoln High in 1949, receiving academic and student achievement recognition as Council President, Knight Society, Honor Society, Letterman's Club and Annual Staff member as well as School Municipal and Superior Court Judge. He excelled at sports and participated as a two-year letterman in pole vault, high jump, and basketball.
Entering the military in June of 1950, he served as Army Infantry Squad Leader in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in June of 1953. In October of 1953, Ray joined the Los Angeles Police Department. Working Metro-Vice, Homicide/Gang Detail, and Narcotics he retired as a Sergeant in June of 1980, after 27 years of service with numerous commendations.
While employed with the LAPD Ray worked closely with fellow officer and later writer and television movie producer Joseph Wambaugh. Ray was recruited to work as a Technical Advisor with Columbia Pictures for the long running police drama series Police Story. In addition to his law enforcement career Ray moonlighted as an actor in episodes of the Police Story as well as the films, The Onion Field and Man Undercover, working alongside of David Janssen, Chuck Connors, Dennis Cole, David Cassidy, James Wood and many others.
In later years Ray worked as a Senior Relationship Manager for the American Cancer Society promoting senior citizen wellness throughout southwestern Idaho.
Ray was active in the community and served as past Post Commander and later Sergeant at Arms for the American Legion Post 18, was a member of the Gem State Fly Fishers, the Appaloosa Horse Club, Retired Police and Fire Association, North American Hunting Club, Screen Actors Guild and past Hunter Education Instructor. Ray truly loved animals and the outdoors and was an enthusiastic caretaker of legions of cats, dogs, and horses. He will be missed.
Ray was preceded in death by his mother Petra, father Alfonso and brother Al. He is survived by brothers Gilbert, Danny and sister Irene; daughters Toni Camacho, Lorraine Camacho and Frances Aldaz; grandchildren Alicia Daddio, Michael Daddio, Sal Aldaz and Jessica Abundis; four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 2-4 pm at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So., Nampa. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 12:00 pm at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 510 W. Roosevelt, Nampa.
