Shirley D. Hazen
April 28, 1926 - February 22, 2014
Shirley D. Hazen, 87, of Boise, and formerly of Twin Falls, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at a Boise care facility. She was born in Southerland, Nebraska on April 28, 1926 to Everett V. Perkins and Grace Hayden Perkins. They moved to Long Beach, CA for a short time and on to Nampa in 1935 where she was educated at Lakeview School and Nampa High School where she graduated with honors in 1944.
Shirley met Leslie Hazen at a Drive In in Caldwell in 1954 and they were married on July 31, 1956 in Nampa. Shirley worked at many different jobs in her life from picking tassels on corn and selling auto parts, but her main profession in her life was working as a dental assistant in a dentist office for Dr. Comstock. She and Les also lived in the Twin Falls area from 1967 until 2007, where they were partners in a furniture store.
Her true passion in life was music. Shirley began to sing at the age of 3 and at one time sang on KFXD at the age of 12. She sang professionally for many weddings and funerals and also had lead parts in several Boise plays. She was a baptized Christian woman and sang in all three of the Christian churches that she belonged to. Music was in her heart and Les very much enjoyed her singing.
Travel became very important for Shirley and Les over the years. They traveled to many places including the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Many of these trips were made visiting family, which was an important part of her life. She enjoyed reunions, weddings and graduations of grandchildren.
Shirley enjoyed her life and all of the people in her life.
She is survived by her husband, Les; her children, Terry and Geri Hazen and Lynda and Dallas Berg; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Merlyn Locatti and Bonnie Rodwell; a sister in law, Evelyn Hazen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend heart felt thanks to all of the people who comforted both Shirley and Les over the last few years, from the doctors and nurses and administrators to all of the kitchen staff and the ladies who cleaned their room. Thank You.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. An online guest book may be signed at www.nampafuneralhome.com
