Vernadene Eloise Murray
1927 - 2014
Vernadene Eloise Murray, 86, passed away in Apple Valley (Parma), Idaho on March 5, 2014, with her three daughters by her bedside. She suffered a stroke in October 2011, and a broken hip in April 2013, and things were never the same after that.
Born on June 25, 1927 in Apple Valley to Marie Hilbig and Cedric Caldwell, she joined her big brother, Kenneth. She spent the majority of her life in the Parma area, graduating from Parma High in 1945, attended beauty school shortly after.
On November 22, 1946 she married Fred Leon Murray (he called her Snookie). They raised four children: Theresa, Connie, Mike, and Sandra.
Many women in this area enjoyed their weekly appointments at Vernadene's Beauty Shop, which was in her home in Parma. She also spent many years working at Simplots in Caldwell. She was non-stop while working in her yard, taking her dog for a walk, riding her bike, and going to Jackpot, Nevada. Other highlights of her later years included going to Disneyland and the Oregon Coast with Theresa and her family and her son Mike.
Vernadene is survived by her three daughters, Theresa (Dick) Rose, Connie (Clint) Witherspoon, and Sandra (Craig) Telford. She was blessed with her grandchildren, Jason Hansen, Zack (Trish) Telford, Sunny Telford, Greg (Kirsten) Murray, Jeremy (Sarah) Murray, Michelle (Scott) Osmus, Michael Rose, Martin (Trish) Rose, and Eric Rose, as well as 18 great grandchildren with one due in July. She is also survived by two nieces, Marilyn and Renee.
Her husband, Leon, passed away on December 5, 2001, and her son, Mike, passed away on July 15, 2013. Her only sibling, Kenneth, passed away in 1992.
Mom spent the last six months of her life in the care of Dennis and Lorna Howard, her angels on earth. We were so blessed that they were able to take her in their home and love and care for her as if she was their own mother. God bless you Dennis and Lorna.
A Memorial will be held to celebrate her life on Sunday, March 16, 2014, 2:00 pm at the Parma Senior Citizen Center, 8th St., Parma. Mom's favorite, fried chicken, will be provided along with drinks. Please bring a side dish of your choice.
