Wayland I. "Bill" Fisher

Wayland I. "Bill" Fisher passed away November 25, 2013. Wayland was born September 26, 1924 in Boise, Idaho to pioneers Theodore and Mildred Fisher. He grew up north of Eagle on the Fisher Family Farm, which was established in 1908 by his father Theodore and his grandparents George and Ella Fisher.
Wayland received his primary and secondary education at Eagle Grade School and Eagle High School. In 1942-43, he attended Boise Junior College before enlisting in the US Army
Air Corps. After the war, he continued his education at BJC, graduating as valedictorian with an Associate of Arts degree in 1947. In 1949, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho.
Wayland was a member of the Idaho Volunteer Reserve Guard in 1942. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps Aviation Cadets in 1943 and graduated in 1944 as a B-24 bomber first pilot. He trained at Mountain Home AFB before overseas duty in the Western Pacific islands, the Philippines and Okinawa. After the war, he was stationed in Tachikawa, Japan and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was one of the original pilots in the Idaho Air National Guard and flew P-51 fighters and B-26 light bombers.
In 1946 he married Mary Larane Garlock. Their four children are Janice, Judee, Jo Anne and David.
Wayland's career in mechanical engineering included employment with New Holland Machine Company in Pennsylvania, Gate City Steel, and 27 years with JR Simplot Company as Chief Engineer of the Food Division, followed by 13 years as a consultant with Nestle-Simplot.
He was past president and honored member of the Caldwell Night Rodeo Board, as well as, a member of the Canyon County Sheriff's Mounted Posse. Wayland was also a member of B.P.O.E. 1448, Caldwell, and a member of the American Legion Post 127, Eagle.
He is survived by the love of his life Ardyce, whom he married in 1987, and children Janice (and Al) Crowell, Judee Fisher, Jo Anne Nelson, David (and Christine) Fisher, Fred (and Kristina) Hofeldt III, and Scott (and Sharon) Hofeldt, as well as 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grand children.
His parents, brothers Weldon and Edgar Fisher, Edgar's wife Orvietta, brother-in-law Eldon Martin, Eldon's wife Ann, brother-in-law Jim Ivie and niece Susan (Weldon's daughter) preceded him in death.

The funeral will be Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Creekside Bible Fellowship, 350 East State Street, Eagle, ID 83616, and then a funeral procession to Dry Creek Cemetery, 9600 Hill Road, Boise, ID 83714, followed by a reception at the LDS Stake Center, 2090 N Eagle Road, Eagle, ID 83616.
