Burton Blades

Burton Henry Blades 95, of Nampa passed away peacefully Friday May 13, 2011, in a Caldwell care center. Burton came to Idaho in 1937 from Missouri. As a young man he tried many career paths, but always came back to farming, which is what he did for over 40 years in the Scism community.
In the 50s, Miller Henderlider introduced Burton to the hobby of rock-hounding. at first Burton was weary of any hobby that would put a shovel in his hands, but it quickly became something he loved to do for over half a century.
Burton was a lifetime member of the Owyhee Gem and Mineral Society. He loved cutting open, shaping and polishing his rocks so that all could see their inner beauty. When he wasn't farming, or in the hills looking for rocks, you could find his camper parked along the Snake River and he would be sitting there with a fishing pole in his hands.
He was a 50- year member of the Southside Grange. He was a member of the Southside Methodist Church.
Burton was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Lucille Henderlider Blades, his second wife Grace Bealle Blades, a son, Larry Millard Blades, and two granddaughters, Shannon and Jenni.
He is survived by two children, Gary (Artricia) of Nampa, and Nancy Shahan of Hurricane, Utah; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one brother, Wayne (Lois) of Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Burton's name be made to Align Hospice, 940 E. Carol St., Meridian, ID 83642. Funeral is under the direction of Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. Nampa, ID.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Alsip & Person Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 20, at 10 a.m.
